120px LSU Cheerleader1 Week 9 SEC Football ReviewThere were some very good SEC football games this past weekend. Georgia-Florida was an excellent game. Florida had a 17-3 lead but Georgia was just to much in the second half. John Brantley the Florida QB showed some signs of rust going just 2-12 for 19 yards in the second half. The Georgia defense was the deciding factor as they completley shut down the Florida running game by holding the Gators -19 yards rushing and just 32 yards of total offense in the second half. Georgia is (8-2) on the year winning 6 straight games while Florida fell to (4-4).

South Carolina found a way to win without star running back Marcus Lattimore. True freshman Brandon Wilds led the Gamecocks in rushing with 137 yards and also led the team in pass receiving yards. Of course that’s not good when you have a WR like Alshon Jeffery that you just can’t seem to get the ball to. The South Carolina offensive line blocked better against the run but continued the bad pass blocking that has hurt the offense all year. Earlier in the season people were complaining about Stephen Garcia leaving the pocket to soon but Saturday night you saw QB Connor Shaw do the same thing. The OL has to play better for the Ganecocks to have a chance against Arkansas this weekend. South Carolina improved to (7-1) while Tennessee fell to (3-5)

Auburn jumped out to a 14-0 lead only to see Mississippi bounce back to a 17-17 tie at halftime. But the Tigers blew it open in the second half to take a 41-23 victory. Auburn picked up a total of 414 yards against the Rebels defense but also gave up 382 yards. The Auburn defense has been their biggest problem this year. Auburn improved to (6-3) on the year while Ole Miss fell to (2-6).

Mississippi State improved to (4-4) with a 28-16 win against Kentucky. This has been a very disappointing year for the Bulldogs and they need two more wins to be bowl eligible. Kentucky (3-5) will have to hustle to get to 6 wins and become bowl eligible. I don’t believe they will make it this year. The Kentucky offense has showed little signs of improvement since the start of the season and they managed just 16 points against the Bulldogs defense Saturday.

Maybe the best SEC football game this past weekend was the Arkansas-Vanderbilt match-up. Arkansas outscored Vandy 11-0 in the final quarter to pull out a 31-28 victory. Vandy (4-4) outplayed Arkansas for 3 quarters but it’s a 4 quarter game. Vanderbilt is a vastly improved football team but they have to learn how to win in the 4th quarter. They had a chance to beat Georgia last week and should have beat Arkansas this week but the Hogs pulled it out. The most surprising statistic to me was Vanderbilt out rushing Arkansas 222 to 72. The Commodores have played good defense all year.

This upcoming week is the week we have all been waiting for. The game of the year will be played Saturday night between Alabama and LSU. There is also a big match-up that could determine who will win the SEC east when South Carolina goes to Arkansas Saturday night. If the Gamecocks lose Georgia will most likely come back from an 0-2 start to win the east.
