Several teams get a much needed break this week from SEC football competition. There are a couple of games that mean a lot when it comes to making a bowl. Vanderbilt and Mississippi State can get to six victories and become bowl eligible this weekend. Elsewhere South Carolina is praying Kentucky can pull off a huge upset this weekend against Georgia. If that where to happen the Gamecocks would win the SEC East. Good luck with that one. Here we go.

Georgia 31 Kentucky 14 Georgia does not have a letdown but they do not cover the spread for all you bettors out there. Georgia has looked awful good the last few weeks and maybe the 3rd best team in the SEC. Of course Arkansas fans would have something to say about that as they should.

Auburn 50 Sanford 21 The Auburn offense will run up and down the field but can the Auburn defense stop anybody?

Florida 36 Furman 24 The Gators better not get caught looking past the Paladins. They are used to playing in front of big crowds once or twice a year and can put a scare into a team that looks past them.

Vanderbilt 21 Tennessee 17 Tennessee QB Tyler Bray is expected to return but the Vols offense has been so bad that I don’t know how much he will help at this point. The Vols are at home and they put up a good fight but Vandy becomes bowl eligible.

Alabama 41 Georgia Southern 17 The Crimson Tide play a pretty good football team that can run the triple option to perfection. The Tide defense will be able to make up for mistakes they make in reading the option because of their tremendous speed. Georgia Southern will make it close for a half and then Alabama should make adjustments at halftime to shut down the Georgia Southern running attack in the second half.

LSU 60 Ole Miss 21 You can pretty much name your score in this one. Mississippi will be without their starting QB who is suspended but it would not matter if he was playing.

Arkansas 34 Mississippi State 17 The Bulldogs put up a great effort at home last week against Alabama. Their defense looked really good. They will have to be perfect to stay on the field with the Hogs. But Arkansas is at home and they play really well there. The Bulldogs just do not have enough offense to win this one. They will have to wait one more week to become bowl eligible.

South Carolina 28 Citadel 10 The Gamecocks play a triple option offense again this season in the Citadel but the Bulldogs don’t quite have the athletes that Navy had. The Gamecock defensive line should dominate this game. I look for Steve Spurrier to try and work on his passing game this week. It’s still putrid and they may have some success against the Citadel throwing the ball this week but next weeks huge battle with Clemson will be 3 yards and a cloud of dust as they try to keep a real passing team off the field.
