Week 10 SEC Football Review

Well it passed and we all survived it. The game of the century was indeed a great college football game. Many people were tweeting it was to boring to watch. Most of those people I would say actually know very little about football. A great defense will beat a great offense 95% of the time. Alabama and LSU will play again in the national championship game I believe. They are the two best teams in the nation without a doubt. Oklahoma State and Stanford play in two no defense leagues.

I wish we could have a playoff with those 4 teams playing wach other. The two SEC teams against the other two with the winners meeting in the championship game.

The Alabama – LSU game was two great hard hitting defenses shutting down the others offense. I feel for the Alabama placekicker. He had several chances to win the game. He had an awful night. I picked LSU as my preseason favorite but after watching Alabama play a few times this year I thought they would win at home. They could not take advantage of the opportunities LSU gave them. Trent Richardson is the real deal. He made some fantastic runs and just refused to go down. But LSU pulled it out in overtime. I can’t wait for the rematch.

Arkansas exploited an overrated South Carolina defense in the second half to cruise to an easy victory. The Carolina defense has one of the best defensive lines in the country but they need to improve the speed of their linebackers and defensive backs to take the next step. As I have said before the reason they were rated so high in pass defense was because of the pass rush of the defensive line. Against Arkansas they were unable to get much pressure with Tyler Wilson rolling out on almost every pass play. It did not help matters that USC defensive coordinator Ellis Johnson does not believe in blitzing.

Arkansas coach Bobby Petrino seems to outsmart the USC staff year after year. It doesn’t help that USC has no offense. That’s another story.

Vanderbilt had another frustrating loss to Florida 26-21 on Saturday. Vandy has been in position to win several SEC games that they have come up on the short end of in the 4th quarter. They are 4-5 and need two wins to get to a bowl game. I think they win 2 of the last three to get there. Florida is 5-4 after beating Vanderbilt and is one win away from being bowl eligible.

Georgia moved to 7-2 after beating poor old New Mexico State and took over first place in the SEC East with South Carolina’s loss to Arkansas. If Georgia can take care of Auburn at home this weekend they should win the east.

Tennessee took care of Middle Tennessee 24-0 to get back on the winning track. They are two wins away from being bowl eligible also but face Arkansas this weekend. Nuff said.

This is a surprise. Kentucky is only two wins away from being bowl eligible also. They surprised me with a 30-13 win against Ole Miss. I did not see 30 points coming from this Wildcat team. Don’t think they make it to six victories this year though.

Mississippi State bashed Tennessee – Martin 55-17. What does that mean? Not much. Except that was their 5th victory. The Bulldogs need one more win to be more bowl eligible.
