SEC Meetings

The SEC meetings are taking place this week in Florida and Steve Spurrier caused the biggest stir with his proposal to pay players a $300 per game stipend. This stipend would come out of the head coaches salary. About half of the coaches signed signed off on it while the other half said no thanks

To be fair a couple of the new coaches probably could not afford to pay the $300,000 a year this would cost the head coach of each school. This proposal will not go anywhere but it gives the ADs, head coaches and others a place to start a conversation on the matter. I think the schools will wind up paying the players something because they are making so much money off the players,  but it is years away.

Another big topic is the over signing of players to football scholarships. The limit is 25 but the SEC passed legislation 2 years ago to allow them to sign 28 because of the number of players failing to qualify. I understand holding the schools to only signing 25 because several players have been left without a school when the school got around to telling them we don’t have a spot for you.

I say sign 25 players and if they don’t get in to bad.

The SEC basketball coaches are looking at going to one division instead of the east and west divisions like they have now.
